NEPSI uploads a spreadsheet tool for calculating peak inrush current and frequency associated with fixed and multi-stage capacitor banks. The spreadsheet helps to determine the suitability of the switching device (e.g. breaker or capacitor switch) and the required transient inrush reactor inductance for the application in accordance with IEEE and ANSI standards.

NEW: Outrush Current Calculation Spreadsheet

NEPSI uploads a spreadsheet tool for calculating outrush current and frequency associated with medium voltage power capacitor banks and close in faults. The spreadsheet tool presents the relevant standards and calculations to determine the requirement for outrush reactors based on substation breaker and capacitor bank ratings. The requirement for outrush reactors is largely dependent on the circuit breaker being used, the grounding and rating of the capacitor bank, as well as the length of cable between the capacitor bank and the location where the fault may occur. Successful Commissioning of Filter System at Red Chris Copper-Gold Mine

NEPSI is pleased to announce they have completed the commissioning of a 5-Stage filter system for Red Chris Development Company (RCDC), a wholly owned subsidiary of Imperial Metals. The filter system consists of C-High Pass, High Pass, and Notch filter branches that are switched on and off automatically based on the mine's reactive power (vars). The all-inclusive design encompassed all protection, control, switching, and interlocking requirements.

NEPSI's lead commissioning engineer, Mark Howson announced today that his commissioning team completed the startup and commissioning of two large filter systems located at Buenavista del Cobre Copper Mine in Cananea, Mexico. The mine is owned and operated by Grupo Mexico and is responsible for nearly 475,000 tonnes of Copper production per year.
