NEPSI is pleased to announce today the availability of their latest technical note that address arc flash mitigation strategies in their metal-enclosed power capacitor banks and harmonic filter banks. “When it comes to arc flash faults, medium-voltage metal-enclosed capacitor banks, harmonic filter banks, and switchgear share similar concerns and dangers”, says Peter Steciuk, executive officer at NEPSI. This technical note provides over 30 mitigation strategies, some common to and some not common to switchgear. Strategies available from NEPSI as features and options involve ways to minimize the level of exposure to arc flash events as well as ways to reduce the probability that an arc flash event will occur in the first place. In addition to this technical note, NEPSI’s online metal-enclosed guide form specifications were updated to include these strategies to assist specifying engineers with their implementation. NEPSI encourages the implementation of these strategies to improve the safety of their equipment.
