NEPSI is excited to announce their latest product offering, a transient free capacitor switch that utilizes ABB’s DS1 switch. This switch, with nearly no limit on operations, provides transient free switching in both current and voltage and is rated for capacitor banks to 17kV and 630 amps.

Unlike other transient free switches that rely solely on timing (0-voltage closing) or the insertion of inductance or resistors (pre-insertion technology), the ABB DS1 switch exploits the natural commutating principles of a Diode to perform transient free closing and opening operation. Therefore, no current chopping, no pre-strike, and no re-strike, and no chance of transient over-voltages during switching operations.

This technology is available from NEPSI as a packaged solution for inclusion in their metal-enclosed capacitor banks or as a standalone product offering for retrofit applications. For more information on this offering, consult our newly released literature and view our showcase video below.

NEPSI is the world's leading supplier for innovated solutions involving medium voltage capacitor banks and harmonic filter banks. NEPSI's equipment is used around the world by industrial, commercial, and utility power system owners and operators with voltages from 2.4kV through 38kV to correct power factor and improve power quality.
